If you listen to Sonshine on Sunday evenings you may have already heard our new Table Talk host, Doug Townsend, in a different role over the past few months. Doug has been Pastor Phil Ayers’ offsider and producer for the Relationship Revive program.
But when we learned the news late last year that our 2024 Table Talk host, Jo, was heading back to South Africa, Doug stepped in and put his hand up to take on a brand new role as your new Table Talk presenter for 2025.
So, here’s your chance to get to know a little bit more about Doug, before you meet him on air from next Monday 3rd February!
1. What’s the most important thing we need to know about you?
That’s a great question! I think my social media description of myself is a good place to start “I’m on a spiritual journey to follow Jesus | Aspiring artist, photographer and storyteller | Part-Time Pirate 🏴☠️ & All-round nice guy.” I would also add I love my wife, coffee, 4x4s and motorbikes, did I mention coffee…
2. Who’s in your family?
In the immediate Townsend clan there’ my wife Bek, Mr Bruce our American Staffy X and me. Then the family gets wider, more complicated and very bogan.
3. What did you do before joining Sonshine?
For a large part of the last 20+ years I’ve worked in the youth and community development sector helping young people make positive changes. During this period my wife and I have also served in multiple roles in our local church including planting and pastoring a church for seven years in Melbourne’s inner west.
4. Coffee or tea?
Coffee is the only answer
5. Dogs or cats?
Dogs, definitely dogs…. Maybe it’s story for another day but we have never had good success with cats.
6. Favourite football team?
The mighty Brisbane Lions 🦁 of course.
7. Favourite thing to do in your spare time?
Hang out and eat good food with good friends, and, when I get inspired, do something creative. I also love a good road trip. I definitely love a driving holiday.
8. What are you looking forward to the most about being part of the Sonshine team?
Getting to know the broader Sonshine family better. I’m a big fan of creating community and I’m looking forward to helping share stories of hope, especially some of the amazing life changing stories that our Sonshine family are doing and experiencing both locally and abroad.
Make sure you tune in Monday from 9am to listen do Doug’s first Table Talk show and send him a text on 0429 985 985 to welcome him to the family!
