Last night Perth was filled with music, joy and life-changing moments as We Are Messengers brought their much-anticipated Australian tour to Riverview Church in Burswood – presented by Sonshine and Christian Media & Arts Australia. Close to a sell out crowd of around 900 people gathered for an uplifting night of powerful worship, new songs and heartfelt encouragement.
Before the show, Sonshine had the privilege of chatting with lead singer Darren Mulligan, who shared why Perth once again became the starting point of their tour.
Why Perth? “We Just Love It Here!”

Darren explained that although the travel schedule was intense, the band was more than happy to begin the tour in Western Australia.
“Last time we started in Perth too, and I’m not sure why because we just we flew the best part of 24 hours to New Zealand, and then 7 hours back in time to Perth. But, we love Perth, we love the city and the people. We got to visit the beach and Fremantle, and we just love it here.”
A World-First for Perth Fans
True to his word, the band delivered a unique experience, performing four songs live for the first time anywhere in the world, straight from their upcoming album that won’t be heard elsewhere until its official release later this year. Darren admitted they had never played this set before and didn’t quite know how it would unfold – but trusted God would show up.
“We’re literally playing a show we haven’t played anywhere before, so we have no idea how it’s going to go. But we know that God is really good and in our messes and our brokenness he turns up. We play our songs for Him and for each other and we’re really honoured to be here.”

Support Acts That Set the Tone

The night began with two special support artists: Australia’s own Nathan Tasker, a seasoned singer-songwriter who’s toured with many well-known Christian artists, and local West Australian talent Tenielle Neda, a Geraldton mother-of-three who brought heartfelt worship to the stage. Nathan even delighted the crowd with his beloved song “Like You Love Me” from 2005 – a nostalgic highlight that had everyone singing along.
As We Are Messengers took the stage, the energy lifted. Between songs Darren didn’t just perform, he spoke words of encouragement and comfort to several audience members, showing his genuine heart for people and his desire to meet them where they’re at. The atmosphere was one of celebration, reflection and deep connection.
“It’s the People” – Why Touring Still Matters
Darren also shared his favourite part of being on the road:
“It’s the people. I don’t care so much for travelling … but people are different in every community and I love seeing God turn the lights on and seeing Jesus using these songs of ours to bring healing and conviction and ultimately bring people closer to him. Touring brings a lot of loneliness and some pressure on our families, but we’ve learned to balance that and our families are in a really good place now, and we just love seeing God show up.”

A Special Experience for VIP Guests

For those who purchased VIP tickets, the night began even earlier with a special meet-and-greet where Darren answered questions and took photos with fans – a personal touch many described as unforgettable.
It was a night that blended excitement with meaning – a celebration of new music, community, and the deep hope at the heart of our Christian faith.
Thank you to everyone who came out to the show, to all the volunteers, the team at Riverview Church, the support artists, and of course We Are Messengers for a truly memorable evening.
