In the early hours of Wednesday, 9th October, Ruth Harris, a beloved member of the Sonshine Christian Radio community, peacefully entered the presence of her Lord and Saviour. Her passing marks the end of a remarkable life dedicated to faith, prayer, and spreading the gospel through Christian ministry.
Ruth recently celebrated a significant milestone—her 100th birthday in July—surrounded by her loving family and friends. Although her health was in decline, Ruth remained committed to her mission, seizing the moment to share the gospel with those who had gathered to celebrate. Her unwavering faith and passion for Christ were ever-present, even in her final months, showing her lifelong dedication to the ministry of Christian radio and the people she cared for.
Ruth and her late husband, Rod Harris, were true pioneers of Sonshine Christian Radio. Alongside a small group of faithful believers, they spent decades in prayer, asking God to bless Perth with a Christian radio station. Their vision and determination laid the foundation for what Sonshine Christian Radio is today. Rod passed away several years ago, but Ruth continued as a fervent prayer warrior, praying for Sonshine’s ministry with an ongoing desire to see it grow and reach more people with the message of Jesus.
Ruth’s legacy of faith and prayer is profound. She leaves behind an extraordinary impact—not only within Sonshine’s ministry but also in the broader Christian community of Perth and beyond. While we will miss Ruth dearly, we take comfort knowing she is now at peace, reunited with her husband Rod, and that her legacy of prayer and devotion will live on through Sonshine’s continued work in Christian broadcasting.
Her life is a shining testament to the power of faith, prayer, and steadfast dedication. We are forever grateful for the role Ruth played in shaping Sonshine Christian Radio, and her faith-filled legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
