A Lifelong Connection to Sonshine

In 2000, I released my first EP, and I’ll never forget the moment Sonshine’s Content and Music Director at the time, Arthur Muhl, gave one of my songs a spin. In 2007, Tim Long played a track from my album and even added it to the regular playlist. Those simple acts of support deeply encouraged me and fueled my passion.

Growing up in Pingelly, I found radio to be a lifeline – it connected me to stories and voices beyond my small town. Every time I drove into Perth, I tuned into Sonshine FM as soon as the signal came through. It quickly became part of my life, and never left.

From Guest to Co-Host

In 2009, I stepped into the role of Chaplain for the West Coast Eagles. Not long after, I began joining Rodney on Sonshine Mornings. We chatted about footy and life, and those weekly segments quickly became something I looked forward to.

Then in 2012, Bec Jones invited me to co-host breakfast for a week. That week turned into nearly eight incredible years on air, eventually teaming up with Kirste and Corey until I signed off in 2019.

Staying Connected Off-Air

Even after I left the studio, I stayed involved. I supported Sonshine’s appeals and helped champion “Watering Day” with Water for Africa. Over the decades, my connection to Sonshine has remained strong- first as a listener, then as a contributor, and always as a supporter.

A New Role, A Familiar Heart

Earlier this year, new Sonshine CEO Michael Pailthorpe called and asked if I’d consider returning—as Mission Director. After serving in pastoral roles across Perth – from Riverview to Red Door Community Church, Fiona Stanley Hospital and beyond – I felt the timing was right. It felt like coming home.

In this new role, I focus on helping our team stay centred on why we do what we do: sharing hope, grounded in the love of Jesus, with every person who tunes in. Sonshine’s blend of Christian and mainstream music creates an open, welcoming sound that meets people where they are.

A Voice of Comfort in Changing Times

What inspires me most is Sonshine’s heart. Faith isn’t something we hide away – it’s something we live out. Through real conversations, shared struggles, and everyday moments, we walk alongside each other and point each other toward healing and grace.

Radio may not be everywhere, but it often shows up when people need it most. In a car, in a kitchen, or in a quiet moment of reflection, Sonshine reminds listeners: you’re not alone.

Looking Ahead with Hope

We live in a world that changes fast. People face rising anxiety, identity struggles, and disconnection in ways we’ve never seen before. In that space, Sonshine has the opportunity to be a steady companion – not just delivering music, but meaning; not just offering words, but wisdom; not just broadcasting a message, but extending hope.

I feel humbled and excited to be back. And I’m grateful for the chance to keep journeying with our city -one song, one story, one heart at a time.
