Leah and Dan from Brekky sat down to have a chat with eliminated Survivor: Redemption contestant, Daniel Lindberg. He is also a fellow WA resident and local pastor.
Daniel Lindbergh became the first Castaway voted out at Tribal Council, so Dan and Leah asked how he was feeling after the elimination.
The Call of Christians
It was noted that, although he got eliminated, he also offered his jacket to one of the other contestants. He said he was convicted to do this because of his faith.
“As Christians, we’re meant to be generous in all times, even when people don’t deserve it,” said Daniel. “If I was out there, I would want someone to be kind to me.”
Surviving Sleep
Daniel said that throughout the whole experience, losing sleep was the hardest part.
“I slept about two hours for my one and only night.”
He continued, “Food was fine because we had a flint from day one. So we were able to light the fire, cook our rice, cook our beans. The beans tasted awful. Like, so bad. And we probably just cooked them badly because it was our first lot of beans. And I just remember being so gassy from those beans.”
A Contestant’s View
Other than badly cooked beans, the food was tolerable, according to Daniel.
“The rice was so delightful and like a bit of coconut. So yeah, food was fine because we had the won the bounty reward. So my experience food wise on Survivor was great. Like spirit sleep wise, not so great.”
He recalled the intensity with the cameras on top of everything else you are required to do.
“Being on the island is very tense and dramatic. It’s got, it’s very high stakes and lots of cameras that you have to get used to.”
Memorable Moments
“There was one memorable thing that didn’t make it to air that I’m a little bit surprised about. We were on the mat, getting introduced to everyone for the first time, we get asked a question once each. I brought the most enthusiasm I’ve ever brought in my life.”
Redeemed by Christ
Daniel said that as a Christian, the concept of redemption for a show was strange to him.
“The theme of redemption in the Bible is it’s a free gift from God. It’s not something you earn. And so to be on a theme of survivor where we’re earning our redemption was such a head spin.”
He said that redemption is a gift from God.
“How am I meant to like, try to earn this?” said Daniel.
He concluded by saying he was a perfect example of someone who couldn’t earn his redemption from a TV show, because it is supposed to be a gift.
“I showed that you can’t earn redemption in life because I couldn’t earn it on Survivor. It continues to be a free gift.”
