In life, we often face challenges that test our faith. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, especially when we’re in the midst of difficult times. But during those moments, it’s important to remember the truth found in the verse on trusting God in difficult times, like Romans 6:1-2, which reminds us that our past is gone and we are free through God’s love. We don’t need to earn His grace; we simply respond to His love and trust in His promises.

Trying to please others can feel like a never-ending struggle. People can be supportive one day and distant the next. Many of us have been there—spending energy trying to gain approval, only to face betrayal or disappointment. A dear friend of mine, who pastored a church for almost 40 years, experienced this firsthand. After all his hard work, two of his closest friends betrayed him, and the church he had poured his life into fell apart. It took years for him and his wife to recover.

It’s a painful experience that happens in many areas of life, yet it’s easy to fall into the trap of striving to please others, thinking that if we do more, they’ll love us more. But in a healthy relationship, love is freely given. You don’t have to earn it. It’s the same with God—His love is already given to us. He sent Jesus to die for our sins, and we don’t change our behaviour to earn that love. We change because of it.

True Christianity isn’t about trying to earn God’s favour or proving our worth. Instead, it’s about responding to His love with gratitude. When we face challenges, like the ones Paul speaks about in Romans 6:1-2, we can trust that God is with us. We can lean on His promises and trust that He will help us through difficult times. No matter what we face, God’s love is the constant we can rely on.

In the end, trusting in God’s love isn’t just about overcoming the difficulties of life; it’s about living a life that reflects our faith in His promises.
