“I was in trouble, so I called to the LORD for help. The LORD answered and made me free. The LORD is with me, so I will not be afraid. No one on earth can do anything to harm me.”Psalm 118:5-6

Listen: The Big Picture

Life often feels like an uphill battle, doesn’t it? Whether it’s a strained relationship, financial worries, health challenges, or a personal struggle no one else knows about, the weight of it can feel overwhelming. In these moments, we’re reminded of the importance of finding strength in God.

Psalm 118:5-6 is a powerful verse on trusting God in difficult times. It speaks to those moments when life feels impossible, offering reassurance that God is always near. The psalmist says, “I was in trouble, so I called to the LORD for help.” And what did God do? He answered. He set him free.

Recently, I visited an elderly man in hospital, battling stage four cancer. His faith in God was unshakeable, even in such a challenging season. He said to me, “I have so much life left in me. Surely it can’t be my time to die.” His words reminded me of this truth: when we face trials, we can always call on God.

Sometimes, when we’re in the thick of life’s battles, it’s easy to lose sight of the bigger picture. We fight so hard to win—whether it’s a financial battle, a health issue, or a broken relationship—because in the moment, winning feels vital. But Psalm 118:5-6 reminds us that these temporary struggles pale in comparison to the eternal promise we have in God.

The Lord doesn’t promise a life without trouble, but He does promise to be with us through it all. “The LORD is with me, so I will not be afraid.” This verse is a reminder that no struggle—no matter how big—can rob us of the peace and purpose God has planned for us.

Whatever you’re facing today, hold onto this verse on trusting God in difficult times. Call on Him in prayer. Trust Him with your fears. And remember, no matter how fierce the battle seems, He is with you every step of the way. That’s the big picture.

And that’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
