1 Corinthians 1:9 God is faithful. He is the one who has chosen you to share life with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Whilst the education system may have changed somewhat these days, the concept of pass or fail still exists. You either make the grade, or you don’t. You either graduate with that piece of paper in hand, or you don’t.
And that carries through into pretty much every sphere of life. You either find a soul mate and get married, or you don’t. Your marriage lasts a lifetime, or it fails. You win the job … or you don’t.
Ultimately, it’s a binary world. Win/lose. Succeed/fail. And so we carry that notion over into our relationship with God because – let’s be clear – whilst His forgiveness is a free gift purchased on that Cross when Jesus died to pay for our sins – a gift that’s activated through simple faith – once we have that forgiveness we enter into a new life.
And that life involves turning away from what we know is wrong. It involves change. That’s why a central part of Jesus’ message was always repentance – turning back to God.
So have you lived that new life perfectly? Nope, me either. We all stumble. We all fall short. Does that mean… we’ve failed? No! Why? Because …
1 Corinthians 1:9 God is faithful. He is the one who has chosen you to share life with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
In this binary world of win/lose, succeed/fail, the thing that we so easily forget is … God’s grace. It never fails. His mercies are new every morning. He will never fail to forgive you for your wrongs, your shortcomings along the way, when you go to Him and ask.
Because Jesus paid for every sin of ours – past, present and future. Because … God is faithful!
That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
