Local artist Danny Alcorn joined Bec and Asa to discuss his musical journey, faith, and his new single. Hailing from Busselton, Alcorn’s path to becoming a Christian musician is a testament to the transformative power of faith and the healing nature of music.
Early Beginnings and Spiritual Awakening
Danny Alcorn’s musical journey began at just 8 years old when he wrote his first song. Growing up in Busselton, he developed a passion for guitar and songwriting. However, it wasn’t until 24 that Alcorn experienced a profound spiritual awakening, giving his life to Jesus and redirecting his musical focus.
Transitioning from secular to Christian music has been a transformative experience for Alcorn. He reflected on the difference, saying, “When I was playing in those bands, it was all about you and you want people to worship you and get affirmation, but it doesn’t fulfil the soul because you want more and more.” Now, Alcorn finds fulfilment in leading others in worship, emphasising that “it’s all about singing to Him and not us.“
A Song of Redemption
Alcorn’s new single, Movies, isn’t just a love song—it’s a heartfelt tribute to his Creator. He began writing it before recommitting to his faith, pouring his feelings of brokenness and doubt into lyrics like, “I’m obsessed with happy endings, but I don’t know if mine will end that way.” After returning to God, he finished the song with hope-filled lines: “But then I see Your face, and all my fears are washed away.”
“It’s a song of redemption and a story of my love for God and how He plucked me out from darkness and gave me new life and a new song to sing,” Alcorn explained. He credits God with refining him and inspiring a new purpose in his music.
Movies is the third track on Alcorn’s debut EP Child of God. Looking ahead, he hopes to start work on his first full-length album next year, subject to funding and God’s timing. With a wealth of songs already written, Alcorn is excited about the prospect of sharing more of his music with the world.
A Message of Hope
Alcorn uses his music to share the love of Jesus with his listeners. “I want people to see the love of Jesus. I’ve experienced it firsthand, and I want others to feel that too—to know there is hope beyond the darkness, temptations, and struggles of this world,” he explained. Through songs that celebrate his faith, Alcorn offers inspiration to those searching for hope and meaning in both art and spirituality.
