Collegue Noa’s story is a powerful testament to resilience, determination, and the strength of the human spirit. On July 1st, 2024, he arrived in Western Australia with little more than a plane ticket and a handful of personal belongings. But just days later, he was robbed on the streets, left with nothing, and forced to confront the brutal reality of homelessness.
Finding Shelter at the Airport
For the next three months, Collegue lived at the airport. What could have been a place of despair became a temporary sanctuary. Amid the loneliness, fear, and uncertainty, he chose to hold on. He spent his days reflecting on his inner strength and his deep faith in God. A faith that became his anchor in the darkest of moments. Even during this trying time, he encountered unexpected kindness from strangers who offered him food, support, and encouragement. Reminders that even in hardship, compassion shines through.
A Turning Point: Reaching Out for Help
Just a week after arriving, on July 8th, Collegue reached out to Uniting WA. That step marked a turning point. The organisation provided him with access to essential services: a warm meal, a place to shower, and critical support in securing a housing referral. Slowly, the pieces of a new life began to fall into place.
A Safe Place to Heal
On September 4th, Collegue moved into accommodation at St. Bart’s. A safe and supportive space where his healing truly began. With the care and guidance of the compassionate staff, he was able to address his mental health, obtain vital identification, and begin planning for long-term stability. Their support provided him with the foundation to rebuild, one step at a time.
Music as Medicine
Through the Mobilise Kickstarter program, Collegue was given the opportunity to apply for financial support for rent. A passionate music lover, he also dared to dream of something more personal like owning a piano. Music has long been his refuge, and at St. Bart’s, he often plays to lift his spirits. For him, a piano is more than an instrument, it’s a symbol of healing, joy, and the freedom to express his soul.
Rebuilding with Purpose
Rather than succumbing to defeat, Collegue chose to move forward. With the support of Uniting WA, the kindness of strangers, the unwavering care from St. Bart’s, and the opportunities through Mobilise, he has regained his independence, found a sense of belonging, and secured long-term housing. His life has been transformed.
A Beacon of Hope
At the heart of his journey is an unshakable faith in God, which gave him the courage to persevere. Today, Collegue stands as a beacon of hope and strength. A reminder that even in our lowest moments, faith, resilience, and the kindness of others can lead us to a brighter future. His story is proof that no matter how far we fall, we can always rise again stronger, wiser, and filled with purpose.
Show Your Heart for the Homeless

Collegue’s story also highlights the importance of organisations like St Bart’s and Uniting WA. This May, we’re partnering with them, along with St Pat’s, to collect items to show our Heart for the Homeless. You can join by donating sleeping bags, backpacks, hygiene products and warm clothing to one of the drop-off points listed here. Collections close this Friday the 23rd of May.
