After more than a decade behind the mic, “Bonza” John Callaghan has announced he will step down as host of The Country Show on Sonshine. His departure marks the end of an era for country music fans across Perth and beyond.
John began presenting The Country Show on Sonshine in 2015. Since then, he has shared his passion for country music every Sunday evening. Over the years, his warm voice and engaging style made the program a favourite with listeners. The show celebrated Australian country sounds and featured stories and tunes that connected deeply with the community.
John shared his reason for leaving, saying:
“After many rewarding years hosting ‘The Country Show,’ I have decided to move on from this volunteer role to pursue other opportunities and refocus my energy on areas of my life that deserve greater time and attention.”
He also reflected with gratitude:
“I am extremely thankful for the experiences gained and the privilege I’ve had working alongside some great people… I am also grateful for the journey, the stories shared, and the incredible support from listeners along the way.”
Sonshine’s Mission Director Paul “Morro” Morrison praised John’s dedication:
“We all just want to say a massive thanks to you for all the hours and effort you have put into hosting ‘The Country Show’. Through many changes at Sonshine, you have remained a constant on air to bless all the country fans.”
“Bonza” John’s show will be remembered not just for the music, but for the connection he fostered with the community. Sonshine thanks him for his faithful service and wishes him every blessing in the next chapter of his life.
