Pastor Chrissy Lee from Nations Church chatted with Bec and Asa on Drive about the message of Easter and the focus we can have on this time.

Jesus is the Focus

Pastor Chrissy began by drawing the focus back to Jesus, although we might get distracted by hot cross buns.

“We look around this time of year to the cross and the empty tomb, which is beautiful. I’ve been thinking a lot about this fact that Jesus came to us, that Jesus had a human experience.”

Theologians describe is as divinity becoming humanity.

“This is a big term,” said Chrissy, “It’s just basically saying that God became a man, like Jesus was fully God, but he was also fully man. And he entered into our human condition. The Bible tells us not to condemn us, but to save us.”

The Human Experience

Chrissy detailed this to explain that Jesus voluntarily came into the human experience to be able to fully relate to us. It serves as a reminder, especially during this time of year.

“If you’re tired, exhausted by life or if you’ve experienced suffering, pain or rejection – know that Jesus had a human experience. He deeply understands and relates to that.

Jesus is Close

Chrissy said that is a beautiful understanding of who Jesus is – close and personal.

“Sometimes Jesus is portrayed to us as perhaps religious or judgy or only interested in us if we’re doing good. But if you read the Bible, he’s been through it all, and he really wants to help us.”

Chrissy said a scripture that summarises the character of Jesus in his humanity is in Hebrews 4:15.

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.

Hebrews 4:15

“Jesus is personal. He’s experienced it all. And the result of that is that you should be able to go to him confidently,” said Chrissy, “To find his grace and mercy, to find his love, care and comfort when you need it the most, whatever’s going on in your life right now.”

She concluded with a prayer that those words of scripture would encourage someone.
