Leah and Dan on Breakfast were joined by Clay Darius, who plays Sebastian the Crab in The Little Mermaid: The Musical. This spectacular show is an experience the whole family will enjoy this school holidays at The Regal Theatre.

Clay began by describing his experience of playing such an iconic character.

“He’s the colour, he’s the vibrancy, he’s the life of the show… but he’s also the moral barometer. He reminds Ariel to, you know, be a good girl and, you know, you’ve got to do what’s right,” said Clay.

An Experience for the Family

Adapted from Hans Christian Andersen’s collection of short stories, Clay encouraged families to come along.

“Bring the kids, it’s just a fun, cool memory you can have. I’m bringing my grandchildren, all of them are going to come and see the show this year. It’s going to be really, really fun and really exciting.”

This is a bigger show of 33 performers on Broadway throughout Western Australia.

“It’s lights, crazy costumes. These are full colours, lighting and effects. It’s going to be great.”

Under The Sea

The greatest part of the show for Clay where the audience comes alive is his musical number, Under the Sea.

“Yeah, for me, it is always Under the Sea. There’s also the beautiful moment when Ariel sings Part of Your World, where you can hear a pin drop. People are just hung on to all of these words that she’s singing.”

A lot of the cast know each other from past performances, so it is a reunion of sorts, according to Clay.

“We did this show about five years ago, and a lot of us have returned to just be a part of the magic again. Cassie, who plays Ursula, is a dear friend, and she’s just an awesome villain for a show like this. Josh Furman, who’s playing King Triton, is also just a solid performer who travels the world singing. We’ve got Amy McCann, who’s come back to Perth to play the part of Ariel. Charles Sherrington, who’s playing Prince Eric and Scuttle is played by Will Basson. It’s going to be a show-stopping day for everyone to enjoy.”
