Ten years ago, I was in my first year of theological studies in Auckland, New Zealand. My university hosted exchange students from America, and I became close friends with some of them. As a proud Kiwi, I took it upon myself to show them the beauty of Auckland, especially the beaches near my home.
One night, we headed to a beach to enjoy the waves and have meaningful conversations. Typical of a group of young guys, we ended up wrestling on the sand. After the fun settled, we realised it was late—time to head home.
As I reached into my pocket for my car keys, dread washed over me. The keys were gone. It was pitch black, and this was before phones had torches. Equipped only with the dim light of our phone screens, we scoured the beach on our hands and knees for hours. Exhausted and defeated, I prepared to call my dad for help.
A Moment of Prayer
As we trudged back to the car, we bumped into an old youth leader of mine. He was at the beach doing devotions and noticed my distress. When I explained the situation, he asked, “Have you prayed about it?” Honestly, I hadn’t. So we gathered together, held hands, and prayed. We thanked God for the day and asked for His grace in finding the keys.
What happened next was incredible. Within a minute of searching after the prayer, we found the keys. It was a simple yet profound reminder of God’s care, even in the smallest details of our lives.
A Message for You
Why do I share this story? Because maybe you’re reading this and feeling overwhelmed—by anxiety, depression, loneliness, or a lack of purpose. Here’s the truth: the God who created the universe knows you intimately and cares deeply for you.
The Bible says you are “lovingly knitted” in your mother’s womb. God even knows the number of hairs on your head and the tears you’ve cried. If He cares about something as small as lost keys, imagine how much more He cares about the bigger struggles in your life.
An Invitation
Whatever you’re facing today, take a moment to draw near to God. He sees you, He knows you, and He loves you. Trust Him with your worries, no matter how small they may seem. Even praying for parking can feel silly—but God cares. He wants to be part of your everyday life, from the mundane to the monumental.
