About McPlanes, McTrains and McBoats

In 1980, McDonald’s opened their first floating food joint in an old-fashioned paddle steamer on the Mississippi River. The McBoat could seat 134 customers inside and 200 more on open-air decks. The floating restaurant stayed open for two decades before it was closed in 2000.

In 1993, the McTrain came along in Germany. The carriage sported the well-known golden arches, could seat 27 people inside and offered Macca’s favourites. But it closed after two years, after failing to bring in customers.

In 1994, McDonald’s partnered up with a Swiss private air charter company Crossair to take to the skies. A trolley service was offered up the aisles and flight attendants would hand out Big Macs.

A man attempted to walk across the water from Florida to New York in a homemade ‘bubble device’

He planned to survive on protein bars, tuna, sea water purified through a filter, gatorade and chewing gum. He informed the coast guard he was headed 1609 km north but ended up 40 km south.

“My goal is to not only raise money for homeless people, raise money for the coast guard, raise money for the police department, raise money for the fire department. They are in public service, they do it for safety and they help other people.” He told a local news station.

Unfortunately, he was forced to turn back after he discovered that some of his safety and navigation equipment had been stolen.
