Last week, as part of our Jingle Bell Jackpot, we had the absolute privilege of blessing a couple of very deserving recipients with Christmas hampers. The hampers, valued at over $300, were provided by generous long-time supporter, Shane.
We received dozens of entries, and were moved by the stories told of people who give so much of themselves in their lives, and have struggled through many adversities over the past 12 months. It was almost impossible to choose just two people to receive this pre-Christmas surprise!
A brekky blessing
On Friday our Drive Producer Telana headed to Ballajura to make the first surprise delivery, meeting Robert bright and early at 8am. Robert had nominated his daughter for the prize. She has struggled with a medical condition for a number of years, which resulted in her losing the job she’d been at for over twenty years, her marriage, and almost her home. She’s also having serious car issues, and desperately trying to provide for her teenage son. Robert’s daughter was overwhelmed to receive the hamper and extremely thankful!
Drive time delivery
Later that day Telana was out again, to visit Barbara at her workplace in Balga. Barbara, our second hamper recipient, was nominated by her daughter Rhiannan, who explained to us the tumultuous year her mum has been through. Barbara’s healthy husband fell off a roof a week before their 56th wedding anniversary, and spent 2 weeks in a coma in the ICU before passing away. This tragedy sparked a series of events which resulted in Barbara being forced to move out of the house they had been in together for over 25 years, with the brunt of the move finishing very recently. Barbara has also had to put her elderly dog down less than 3 weeks from Christmas.
Barbara was surprised with the hamper at her workplace, where she’s the receptionist, and was totally overwhelmed when she realised the basket that had arrived on her reception desk was for her! As someone who is never short of a word, it was an absolute first that she was speechless!
A very special thanks goes to Shane, who generously donated the hampers for us to give away. We wish our two very deserving recipients all the very best, and pray that 2024 is a year of peace and blessing for them.
