The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) recently released a new report highlighting the impact of tobacco, alcohol and drugs on the nation’s health, shining a light on the burden unhealthy behaviours are having on our nation’s wellbeing.
The new data reveals alcohol-induced deaths reached a 100-year peak of 6.0 per 100,000 population, with over 91% of alcohol-induced deaths being associated with chronic effects of long-term alcohol consumption, such as alcoholic liver cirrhosis.
Phil Palmer from Adult & Teen Challenge WA joined Mike on Table Talk to discuss these results. He also gave us exclusive insight into their new “Life Choice” Seminars. Hitting Drug Addiction at its roots, ATCWA is taking the battle to WA schools. The Seminar is headed up by Phil and former ATCWA Student, Renna.
“We tell the teens, we’re not here because we made all the right choices, we’re here because we made all the wrong choices. We want to encourage these kids to make better “Life Choices” for themselves.” – Phil
