Pastor Pintu was raised in a Muslim family, he dedicated his life to Islam. However, his path led him from the mosque to discovering a new faith in Christianity.
Early Life and Devotion to Islam
“I was born in a Muslim family and grew up with the belief that Islam is the only true religion,” Pastor Pintu began. His upbringing instilled a deep commitment to his faith, and he devoted himself to becoming a good Muslim. He attended the mosque every Friday and listened intently to the Imam’s sermons.
During one particular sermon, the Imam preached about the assurance of heaven for Muslims. He emphasised that converting others to Islam would guarantee a place in heaven. “I was calculating because I had three Christian students,” Pastor Pintu recalled. “I thought, if I could convert even one, I would get to heaven. And if I could convert all three, it would be even better.“
Determined to learn more about Jesus to facilitate these conversions, he approached his students under the guise of interest in their faith. His eldest student eagerly shared about Jesus, but when Pastor Pintu presented his Islamic beliefs, she challenged him. “Are you sure you have the assurance of heaven?” she asked. This question planted a seed of doubt.
Seeking Answers
So Pastor Pintu asked his Imam for answers. “Where can I find in the Quran, where Allah has given full authority to our Prophet, Muhammad, that he will take me to Heaven?” The Imam’s angry response and inability to provide an answer shook Pastor Pintu’s faith. He began searching the Quran for answers. Surprisingly, he found numerous mentions of Jesus (Isa al-Masih) and wondered why his name appeared so frequently.
Curious about Christian practices, Pastor Pintu decided to visit a church. “I entered the church for the first time and sat at the back,” he recounted. However, the sermon that followed profoundly impacted him. The preacher, who initially struggled to begin his prepared message, eventually spoke about the life of Joseph. Every detail resonated with Pastor Pintu’s personal struggles.
The Revelation
After the service, Pastor Pintu approached the preacher, astonished by the accuracy of the sermon. “Isn’t it strange that you don’t know me, but you told my life story?” he asked. The preacher explained that he felt compelled by God to speak about Joseph instead of his prepared sermon.
The preacher then offered Pastor Pintu a Bible and explained that true assurance of heaven could only be found through Jesus. This conversation led Pastor Pintu to accept Jesus as his saviour. “I accepted Jesus into my life on July 21, 1989, a Friday evening,” he shared, reflecting on the pivotal moment of his conversion.
Pastor Pintu’s journey from Islam to Christianity is a powerful testament to the search for spiritual truth. His story encourages others to seek answers with an open heart. “If you are serious about your life, think seriously,” he advised. “Salvation is found in no one else but Jesus.”
