Jodii Maguire from Think Performance Psychology joined Kirste and Dan to share some Monday Motivation. Today she explained how we can practice patience in a fast-paced world.

“There’s a lot of pressure on us, we google information, and everything’s at our fingertips. Everything is about fast results, fast answers and fast conversations. So I just want to slow the whole Monday morning down for us and hopefully the whole week.”

Slowing down our busy lives has a number of mental and physical benefits and one of the most simple ways to do that is to schedule your day effectively. “What does that mean? It means not putting meetings back to back so that we just run from one meeting to the next and are not being present in those conversations.” So give yourself breaks throughout the day where you can just sit or go for a walk to slow the world down.

The next thing we can do is practice more listening than talking. “When we listen, it expands our depth of understanding. It expands our own knowledge and the connection between you and the other person. So the interaction becomes deeper and more meaningful.”

The last thing that we should do is find ways in our days to practice gratitude and mindfulness. “I’m so grateful my mum and sister flew to England and are having a wonderful time. I’m so grateful that they’ve got that opportunity. So that’s one way of showing gratitude and just stopping and being grateful for what we have and not what we don’t have.”

Mindfulness can also help you be present in the moment and slow things down. “I do this every morning with my first coffee, where I just stop and enjoy it. I just sit still and take a breath with it just before everybody wakes up in my house.”
