This November, multi-platinum selling artist and 2x GRAMMY Award winner Lauren Daigle is making her long-awaited return to Australia as part of her critically acclaimed Kaleidoscope Nights Tour. Known for her powerful vocals and faith-filled music, Daigle has touched hearts worldwide. During the school holidays, she joined Lockie to open up about her musical journey, her latest self-titled album, and her love for Perth.
Looking Forward to Perth
As Daigle prepares for her tour, she shared her excitement about returning to Perth, recalling her 2020 concert. “I remember going to Perth and being mind blown,” she said. Having grown up in Louisiana, she noted how the Indian Ocean’s warm waters reminded her of home. “I just cannot wait to go to the beach. I’m so excited,” she added.
Reflecting on Her Journey
Daigle described her latest album as “a completion of a journey,” which began just before the pandemic hit. “I genuinely felt like I was on top of the world in January 2020,” she said. However, the onset of COVID-19 brought one of the darkest times in her life. “It was like whiplash that took years to heal from.“
In her darkest moments, Daigle turned to her faith. “God, you have to pull me out of this sorrow or depression,” she recalled praying. This period of personal struggle led to profound growth. “I found real joy, a joy so deep it is palpable,” Daigle explained. The new album reflects that journey from sorrow to joy.
Collaborations and Creative Evolution
Daigle spoke about the collaborations that shaped her album. “Working with Mike Elizondo and Natalie Hemby was profound. They taught me how to approach the studio in such a healthy way,” she said. She also reflected on her long-time friendship with songwriter Jason Ingram, describing their work together as “a legacy.“
When asked about balancing mainstream success with staying true to her artistic vision, Daigle emphasised her deep connection to her music’s purpose. “I want people to understand and know that [God] is my source of hope,” she said. For Daigle, her songs are more than just music; they are a way to touch lives on a spiritual level.
A Unique Recording Experience
One standout moment in the album’s creation was the track “Turbulent Skies.” Daigle revealed that the song was initially written in 2014 and revisited years later. “I recorded the first verse and chorus back in 2014, and then I went back seven years later to finish the song,” she shared. This unique timeline showcased how her music evolved over time.
Looking Ahead to Perth
As the interview wrapped up, Daigle couldn’t contain her excitement for the upcoming tour. “I think the show is going to be a blast,” she said with a smile. Fans in Perth are eagerly awaiting her return, ready to experience the joy and hope she brings through her music.
