The Honourable Hannah Beazley, Member for Victoria Park, Minister for Local Government; Youth; and Minister Assisting the Minister for Training and Workforce Development, joined Bec and Asa to discuss her passion for connecting with young people and supporting local communities.

Supporting WA’s Local Governments

With 139 local governments—the highest of any Australian state—Western Australia’s local government sector is vibrant and complex. As Minister for Local Government, Beazley navigates a balance between support and regulation, striving to help each council thrive while maintaining essential standards. “It’s really about working with them to bring out their best and offering support, while also playing a regulatory role,” she shared. Her passion for the sector is clear: “Local governments are filled with people who are incredibly dedicated to their communities, and I love people who are dedicated to their communities.

Amplifying Youth Voices as Minister for Youth

As Minister for Youth, Beazley’s primary mission is to amplify the voices of 10-25-year-olds and recognise their contributions as present-day leaders. “I am constantly in awe of what they bring to their communities. They’re the leaders of today, not just tomorrow,” she remarked. Her admiration for young people fuels her commitment to empowering youth as active, impactful members of society.

Championing Training and Workforce Development

In her additional role in training and workforce development, Beazley supports Western Australia’s TAFE network alongside Minister McGurk, ensuring it aligns with the state’s evolving workforce needs. With a particular focus on the defence industry workforce, an area she is personally passionate about, Beazley champions training initiatives that create clear pathways and opportunities in this vital sector. Her dedication to workforce development reflects her broader commitment to building a future-ready Western Australia.

Connection to Victoria Park

Beazley also finds fulfilment in her role as a Member for Victoria Park, where she connects with community groups and residents, fostering local resilience. Her connection point role helps bridge needs, such as matching groups with facilities or introducing organizations with common goals. Personally, Beazley draws inspiration from her family. Her father has been a solid foundation and source of support, while her two sons take pride in her accomplishments, encouraging her to share meaningful moments. Her oldest son’s pride in her journey “from Maccas to a Ministry” holds special significance for her.

The Importance of Family-Friendly Media

As a mother, Beazley appreciates the positive impact of family-friendly media outlets like Sonshine FM, which support youth development and mental resilience. “Young people need uplifting, healthy content to strengthen their formative years, which is crucial for their future role in society,” she reflected. Minister Beazley’s work is deeply connected to strengthening communities and empowering the next generation—a mission that resonates in every aspect of her multifaceted role.
