For the week leading to Mother’s Day, Bec wrote a special devotional to share with the Sonshine Family.

As we approach Mother’s Day, it’s a great opportunity to reflect on the importance of mothers and the impact they have on our lives.

One of the most prominent mothers in the Bible is Mary, the mother of Jesus. Mary was chosen by God to give birth to Jesus, the Saviour of the world. She was a faithful and humble servant of God who trusted in His plan for her life. When she was visited by the angel Gabriel, she said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). Mary’s willingness to trust God and His plan for her life serves as an example for us all.

As we honour our mothers on this special day, it’s important to remember all types of mothers; Foster mums, step-mums, aunties, sisters, friends or grandparents. Whoever has helped to raise you, the sacrificial love that they demonstrated day in and day out. From the moment of our birth, our mothers and mum-like figures devote themselves to caring for us and nurturing us. They sacrifice their time, energy, and resources to provide for us and help us grow into the people God created us to be.

Proverbs 31:28-29 says,

“Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.'” This passage reminds us that mothers are a true blessing from God, and we should honour and appreciate them for all that they do.

On this Mother’s Day, let us take time to thank God for the gift of mothers and the love they pour into our lives. Let us think of those who have a difficult time on this day, may they be comforted by the love of God and be surrounded by those they hold dear. And let us all strive to be more like Mary, trusting in God’s plan for our lives and serving Him with humility and faithfulness.
