Connie’s journey began in 2018, during a routine colonoscopy. Given her family history of colon cancer, the procedure was already a year overdue. Connie’s surgeon discovered two polyps and a large tumour against her colon wall. “It’s big and it’s ugly, and it’s probably been in there for years, and you’ve got a very long road ahead of you,” said the surgeon. A biopsy confirmed it was malignant and appointments were quickly arranged.
Connie’s journey through diagnosis and treatment was marked by profound faith. Despite a bleak prognosis, she felt a strong urge for her church to pray for her. After the prayer, Connie felt a unique sense of peace and assurance that everything would be okay.
Connie began chemotherapy, facing severe side effects, including hair loss and significant weight loss. Despite these challenges, her faith and the support from her family, particularly her husband, kept her going.
One Sunday, Connie became unresponsive due to septic shock, a life-threatening condition. She was rushed to the hospital and underwent emergency surgery. Miraculously, she survived. During recovery, she felt the presence of her family and attributed her survival to their prayers and her faith.
Connie’s recovery was arduous, involving intensive care and physical therapy. She defied medical expectations, recovering in weeks instead of months. Her doctors, amazed by her resilience, acknowledged her recovery as miraculous.
After completing chemotherapy and radiation, Connie underwent successful surgeries to remove the tumour and later reverse an ileostomy. Even amid the pandemic, she faced health challenges with unwavering faith, surviving a severe case of COVID-19.
“I thought I was gonna die, but I didn’t. I don’t know the reason for all this, but I’m truly honoured that God chose me to show people that he’s still in the miracle working business. And I just hope this will lead somebody closer to God or to be saved.”
Throughout her journey, Connie remained a testament to her faith, sharing her story with others to inspire belief in the power of prayer and miracles. Her story culminated in a recent clear colonoscopy, marking five years cancer-free.
